Lawrenceville Councilman Announces Run for State Senate District 9

P.K. Martin is running for the seat currently held by Don Balfour.

Lawrenceville councilman P.K. Martin announced Tuesday morning he is running for Georgia State Senate. Martin will run to represent District 9, the seat currently held by Sen. Don Balfour. Last week, a grand jury indicted Balfour on 18 charges.

“I am running because we need an ethical, conservative leader in the Senate who will make us proud and work hard to deliver conservative reforms to improve this district and our state," said Martin in a release.

Martin has served on Lawrenceville's city council for the past eight years. In August, he announced he would not seek re-election.

His last victory was a hard fought one. The November election resulted in a runoff between Martin and former Lawrenceville Mayor Rex Millsaps.

Martin is a Lawrenceville native and works for the family-run business Hood Insurance Agency. Martin serves on the board of the Professional Insurance Agents of Georgia as well as on the board of Providence Christian Academy.
