  • Pay particular attention to your family stories this year, they will be re-told many times during the holiday season. When getting together with your relatives ask them about their holidays in the past and get them to retell those stories, even if you have heard them before.
  • Practice attentive listening and give your family and guests a present of your undivided attention while they are sharing their experiences with you. This is something we consciously have to do sometimes with all our attention being consumed by the activities and commitments of the season.
  • Take some time just to share memories and photographs of years past and listen to the stories they uncover. Making new memories and celebrating old ones is a wonderful gift that has no cost and celebrates the true spirit of the season. Don’t forget to write some new memories down so you can  annotate the photographs you take this season.
  • Making and keeping a journal for your family would be a wonderful tradition to start this season. Ask your family to contribute their favorite story or event that happened during the holiday. Keep a holiday scrapbook to share and add to it every year.
