Work Day Scheduled for March 30 at the Snellville Community Garden

Volunteers are asked to come out to the Community Garden at Briscoe Park Saturday from 1-4 p.m.

After more than a year of planning and preparation, another Snellville dream will become a reality.

The final work party for the Community Garden at Snellville, before the April 7th grand opening, will be held Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. The weather forecast appears to be near perfect. There is only a 20% chance of rain with a high of 67, so dress in layers.

The garden is located in Briscoe Park across from the recycling center at the corner of Marigold Road and Sawyer Parkway.

"The worst of the work has already been done during previous work sessions," said co-founder Kurt Schulz, "but we need one more final push to spruce up the garden in preparation for our grand opening."

The team needs to fill the last five of the 25 beds available for rental this year, along with spreading mulch over the walkways between the beds.  They also need help numbering the last beds for easy identification. It is also expected that a protective fence around the bee hive area will be installed.

"Thanks to a Snellville resident, Louis Partain, involved with Painters Union Local 193, our storage shed will be painted by a group of apprentice painters as part of their training," added Schulz. "So, come on out and bring your favorite garden tools. We have a great group who makes working fun."

They will need wheelbarrows, shovels, maddoxes, both steel and leaf rakes, and some drinks to keep you hydrated.

The grand opening of the garden is scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 7 at 2 p.m.
