Aimee Copeland returned to the Katie Couric show Thursday (Sept. 12) to demonstrate how she uses her bionic hands and to talk about the past year.

Copeland, a 24-year-old Snellville resident, announced in late March that she would be receiving iLimbs after losing her left leg, right foot and both hands to a flesh-eating bacteria after a zipline accident in May 2012. iLimbs are highly advanced prosthetic arms controlled by electrodes.

The South Gwinnett graduate also revealed in March that she would be receiving a set of advanced prosthetic legs.

On last Thursday's airing of "Katie," which Copeland also appeared on in September 2012, the young survivor showed off her bionic limbs by explaining how she opens and closes her hand. Watch the video above for a closer look.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that Copeland walked on stage using a new prosthetic leg and a cane. She also wrote a piece entitled, "How Far I've Come This Year", for Couric's website.

In July, Copeland received her first master's degree in psychology from the University of West Georgia. Click here to read more about her future goals.

Way to go Aimee! While I know what you're dealing with is rough- I want to thank you again for being an inspiration to the Snellville community, as well as to me personally. While we all have struggles in our lives, let me please say that you are a class act, and have at least reminded ME not to give up on others, or myself. Thank you.
