Reading Outside Your Comfort Zone

Which books should you read from the fantasy genre?

I hope that most of you will give the book Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon a chance. Yes, its fantasy but it's a nice change and you never know if it will add a new genre to your reading world.

Don't cringe when you see words like "vampire hunter", "demi gods" or "olympics gods." One of the most popular vampire book series, Twilight, has ruined it for a lot of people and they refuse to read anything else that involves vampires, witches, werewolves, etc... The book is very well written and she weaves a very intricate and creative plot. It is the first in a series of 23, each that focuses on a different character.

So I hope to be adding many books to your "to-read" list!

One of my favorite things about Kenyon's writing is that her target audience is adults. Most of these fantasy, paranormal books are aimed at young adults. Not that I don't love those too, but it's nice to not just read about immortal sixteen-year-olds. If you do end up liking the book, I highly recommend continuing the series. If not and you would like to try a different book that is still in the fantasy genre, I would recommend:

A Discovey of Witches by Deborah Harkness (and her follow up Shadow of Night)

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

I also can't forget young adult fantasy, some of my favorites are:

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Happy reading!
