Help Welcome Aimee Copeland Home on Friday

The Community of Snellville will be coming out to the Snellville Towne Green on Friday to welcome home it's bravest fighter, Aimee Copeland, according to Kathy Emanuel, wife of councilman Dave Emanuel. One of Aimee's favorite bands will begin entertaining the crowd at 5 p.m. while Aimee spends some time inside Snellville City Hall speaking with the media.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Aimee will move over to the Green to enjoy the music and go on stage herself. Aimee is very anxious to thank everyone in person for all the support she and her family have received.

Afterwards Aimee will be on hand and eager to speak with her friends and neighbors until 8 p.m., or as long as her health permits.

In June, the city of Snellville and members of the Snellville Tourism and Trade Association (STAT) and dedicated it to Aimee. Private citizens, city leaders and local businesses banded together to involve the whole community in this fund-raising effort to aid the Copeland Family with their expenses.

At a July Snellville City Council Meeting a ceremonial check for $19,000 was given to the Copeland family. The money was spent on an elevator affectionately called the "Snellvillerator" which was installed in the Copeland home while it was being renovated for Aimee's return.

Aimee Copeland, a graduate of Snellville Middle School and South Gwinnett High School and a student in the masters program at the University of West Georgia, was injured in a zip line accident on May 1, 2012. While struggling to recover from the injury that required 22 stitches, doctors discovered that Aimee had contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a rare flesh-eating bacterial disease. Although Aimee has had to endure multiple amputations, her spirit and courage have been absolutely awe-inspiring.

Snellville, where Everybody is Proud to be Somebody, is looking forward to welcoming Aimee home. Please come out and join us in celebrating Aimee's return. There is no charge for attending this event.
