Summits Wayside Tavern Helps One of Their Own

The restaurant raised funds this weekend for a customer who was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer.

On Saturday, Sept. 8, staff at Summits Wayside Tavern hosted a fundraiser for Greg Laird, a customer who was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer three months ago.

Staff organized a fundraiser, which included a dunk tank and raffle, in order to raise money for Laird's medical expenses.

"It was a pretty good turnout," said Mary Fiorello, spokesperson for Summits Wayside Tavern. "Everybody had a good time and they were happy to help one of their own."

Over $1600 dollars was raised through the dunk tank, while an additional $510 was raised through a raffle. Andy Klubock, owner of Summits, State Representative Brett Harrell, and employees all took a turn in the tank.

This isn’t the first time the staff and customers at Summits Wayside Tavern have done something charitable. In addition to annual events for the Georgia Transplant Foundation, server Mick Taylor shaved his head and collected $1500 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in April.
