Brookwood Teen Passes Away

Obituary: Sixteen-year-old Alec Gregory Gilmore was known as a bright, kind-hearted young man with great dedication to friends and family.

Alec Gregory Gilmore, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was born on February 4, 1997 and passed away on October 30, 2013. 

Alec was a student at Brookwood High School in Snellville, GA and was a member of Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (MCJROTC).

Alec is survived by his mother, Kelly and father, Greg as well as his sister, Claire and his brother, Jack. Alec also had 3 half siblings on his father’s side – Apple, Henry and Holiday. His maternal grandparents are Bob and Gloria Starr of Jonesboro, GA, and his paternal grandparents are Forrest and Peggy Gilmore of McCormick, SC. All of his grandparents survived him, and he had a large and caring extended family including his aunt, Sandra Irby and uncle, Robert Irby and cousins Trey, Miranda and Autumn Irby, as well as his uncle Robert Starr and aunt Bernice Starr.

Alec had many friends and greatly enjoyed his involvement with MCJROTC. He was inspired by the military service members in his family and those he encountered at MCJROTC, and he shared their appreciation of duty, honor and country. 

He was known as a bright, kind-hearted young man with great dedication to friends and family. Alec never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.

A service honoring the life of Alec will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. 

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alec Gilmore fund a College Fund for Claire and Jack Gilmore at any Bank of America location. There will be a donation box present during visitation for those wishing to make a contribution please make checks payable to the Alec Gilmore fund.
