Decorated War Veteran Robert "Larry" Babb Passes Away

A service will be held on April 16.

Robert “Larry” Babb, age 65, of Snellville, Georgia, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday evening, April 12, 2013.  

Larry was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 22, 1948, to Constance Marie Lynch Babb and Robert Calvin Babb.  He graduated from Lyman High School in Florida and attended Dekalb College.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as an Interceptor of Morse Code for the Army. 

He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Aircraft Crewman Badge.  Larry was in produce sales and worked for Waldrop Lawn Care.  His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his five grandchildren.

He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and loved coaching youth football in the Snellville area for many years.  He was a member and deacon at Sunrise Baptist Church and member of the Snellville Masonic Lodge.  Larry will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Barbara Asbell Babb of Snellville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Jennifer Babb Akemon (Scott) of Rome, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Kevin Babb (Meg) of Hoover, AL; five grandchildren, Caitlyn & Lauren Akemon and Cooper, Hudson, & Griffin Babb; mother, Marie Lynch Babb of Snellville, GA; sister, Dale Rice (Ronny) of Hoschton, GA; brother-in-law, Matt Asbell (Amy) of Lilburn, GA; aunt, Betty Moran of Snellville, GA; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.  Larry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Calvin Babb in 1992.

The Service Honoring the Life of Larry Babb will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Rev. J.B. Reese, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
