Funeral Arrangements Have Been Made for C. Earle Snell, 81

Services will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m.

C. Earle Snell, age 81, of Snellville, Georgia, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his home. 

Snell was born on Oct. 23, 1931, in Gwinnett County, where he lived all of his life.  He was the son of the late Edwin Richard (E.R.) Snell, Sr., and Mable Jackson Snell.  After graduating from old Snellville High School he went to the North Georgia College, where he was a member of the baseball team until an injury stopped him.  He later attended the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia, now Georgia State University in Atlanta. 

He worked for General Motors for five years before coming back to the family business, E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., where he retired from in 1991 as Vice President and Treasurer with over 35 years of service.  Snell loved working in sports when his two sons were growing up, enjoyed playing golf, and also was a licensed pilot.  In addition to his love of sports, Snell was awarded the Outstanding Young Man Award by the Snellville Jaycees in 1968, served as a Member and Chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Education from 1970-1973, and President of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce in 1973.

He also served on the Snellville Planning and Zoning Board, was a Director at First National Bank of Gwinnett County, faithful member of the Snellville United Methodist Church and Snellville Masonic Lodge #99 F. & A.M. 

Snell loved his family and friends.  He served his community, was devoted to his family, and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew this gentleman.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Jean Biggers Snell in 2008.  He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Krista Snell, Robin J. and Mary Jo Snell, all of Snellville, GA; six grandchildren, Devin and Kinsey Snell, Delaine and Mike Gray, Ean Snell, Jared and Kellie Snell, Eric and Christie Snell, Chandler and Patricia Snell; eight great grandchildren, Azalea Snell, Hank Snell, Chase Gray, Gabie Snell, Jared Snell, Jr., Willa Kate Snell, Lawson Snell, and Brady Snell; sister, Carol Snell Camp; brother and sister-in-law, Ferle G. and Neita Faye Snell; brother, Jack D. Snell, Sr.; sister-in-law, Martha Snell; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Wayne Mason; brother-in-law, Junior and Pat Archer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. 

The Service Celebrating the Life of C. Earle Snell will be held Sunday, January 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Snellville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jim Cantrell and Rev. Dr. Philip DeMore officiating.  Interment will follow at the Snellville Historical Cemetery. 

Those desiring may make donations to the Snellville United Methodist Church in memory of C. Earle Snell.
