John A. Sligh Jr., 73, of Snellville

Obituary: The retired attorney had worked with the Georgia Department of Human Resources Regulatory Services and was a member of Snellville First Baptist Church for 10 years.

John A. Sligh Jr., age 73, of Snellville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 11, 2013.  

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sybil; daughter, Janet Sligh (Torez Hopkins); son, John David Sligh; granddaughter, Jade Sligh; grandson, Brenden Sligh; sister & brother-in-law, Judy Toler (Doug); nephew, Greg Toler (Jenna); niece, Sherry Balmer; several great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

John was born in Atlanta on September 17, 1940, to Thelma Olga Embrey Sligh and John Albert Sligh Sr. He graduated from Sylvan High School, Georgia State University and received his Law Degree from Mercer School of Law in 1964. John retired in 2006 after 22 years of service with the Georgia Dept. of Human Resources Regulatory Services as an Attorney working with Worker’s Compensation. He served as an Administration Law Judge, as well as having his own Law Practice.

John was a member at Snellville First Baptist Church for ten years and had most recently been attending Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Grayson. John loved to play cards with all his card buddies with The 2.5 Group. He was an avid reader and spent time at the library most every day. John is going to be greatly missed by his adoring family and friends. 

The Service Honoring the Life of John A. Sligh was held Monday, October 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Rev. Guy Priester and Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating. Members of The 2.5 Group served as Honorary Escort. A Private Graveside Service was held at 3 p.m. at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta. The family received friends Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Embracing Hospice, 2160 Fountain Drive, Snellville, GA 30078 in memory of John A. Sligh.
