Bites Nearby: Bonefish Grill

Each week Patch takes a look at a nearby restaurant that is worth checking out. This week's choice is Bonefish Grill.

I'm not really one for chain restaurants, and actually I'm starting to be somewhat of a food snob.

I refuse to eat at most big, sit-down chain restaurants that shall remain nameless because of generally poor service and food that's way too pedestrian. I'm not all that keen on any fast food; the smell of it is just way too much for me. (Besides, chicken nuggets aren't chicken nuggets at all. Umm, I'll grab a smoothie instead. Thanks.) And, I don't really do places that look dirty.

My boyfriend (now ex, long story) took me once, and I don't even do fish. (I'm allergic to shellfish, and tend to run away from all things fishy, even people.) But, when we walked in I was pleasantly surprised. It was soooooo nicely set up. The tables looked elegant, there was a good-looking bar area and, let's just say, I didn't get the feeling that I needed to call the health inspectors.

The waiters were also nicely dressed with the Bonefish Grill attire, and super nice. (Bad waiters get my wrath. Rude people who do not want to come to work should stay home in my book.)

It was a little noisy, but that doesn't bother me. (Ex-boyfriend took me to a less-noisy fancy steak place once, and I decided it was boring.) I like music, I like ambiance, I like people talking. So, Bonefish Grill works for me.

So, of course most of the food was seafood, and he had lobster. (Really, dude? Lobster? You do remember that I'm allergic.) He did say that it was good. It was all gone, that's all I can tell you. On the Saturday that I'm writing this review, there is actually lobster rangoons as the special. It's "hand-made, stuffed with lobster meat plus cream cheese with a tangy sweet dipping sauce," according to the menu. It's only $8.50. Seems like a good buy.

So, I had to weed through the menu to find something not-fish related. There were a few things to choose from: burgers, chicken and steak, of various sorts. I had the filet mignon cooked over a wood-fired grill (6 ounce runs you $19, and the 8 ounce runs you $21), seasonal vegetables and jasmine rice. (I'm addicted to jasmine rice thanks to a friend of mine who doesn't eat meat.) I didn't have any complaints about my dinner. Whew! Because, honestly, before ex-boyfriend took me, I would never have gone.

I don't know what the bill was, because, of course, I didn't pay. But, looking at the menu -- see attached -- seems you could get away with spending $30 a person (a little bit more if you're wine fan). But, do not forget the specials! They are worth checking out, and the prices seem reasonable. The food also is consistently tasty. (The few times that I have been, at least.)

So, all in all I think Bonefish Grill is good thing for Snellville. So far, though, I haven't been disappointed by anything in the Webb Gin shopping center.

Happy eating!
