Suspect Arrested in McDonald's Armed Robbery

Snellville Police arrested Kibenda Stewart as a suspect in an early morning armed robbery.

Police didn't have to look far for a suspect they believe robbed a Snellville McDonald's at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

The man, Kibenda Daniel Stewart of Snellville, was at his home on Highpoint Road when police arrived looking for him, said Police Chief Roy Whitehead in an email statement. Police believe Stewart is a a former employee of the robbed , located at 2684 Main Street W.

The robbery happened about 3 a.m., and police say the suspect hid in the restaurant for some time before the incident.Β 

"When there were no customers present, the suspect accosted the employees with a handgun, took them to the area of the office and demanded money," Whitehead said in an email.

Whitehead said that no one was injured in the robbery.

Police arrived shortly after and began investigating, and it was the quick-sniffing action of K-9 officer Chris that located worn clothes and a BB gun suspected to have been used in the robbery.

After obtaining a search warrant for Stewart's Highpoint Road home, police recovered the $1,600 dollars stolen from the McDonald's.

Stewart, 27, is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. Detention Center records state that Stewart also has a known address on Scenic Drive.

Whitehead said he will be charged with one count of robbery and three counts of false imprisonment.
