Inside the police reports: Two people were taken into custody in the Feb. 3 incident, according to DeKalb county police.

Two carjacking suspects were apprehended by DeKalb county police earlier this month, on the same day they allegedly stole a car that wouldn't start without help from the victim.

The incident happened Feb. 3 in the 4600 block of Weyburn Lane in unincorporated Stone Mountain. The victim, of Snellville, was preparing his deceased father's home for rent by cleaning out the home and the garage, where he said two males approached around 11:25 a.m.

The first suspect pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet, the incident report states. The victim said it was in the car, a red 1999 Volkswagon Jetta.

Shortly after noon, a resident in the 1500 block of Birch Ridge Ct. -- where the Jetta ended up -- told police he witnessed two males flee from the car and head toward S. Hairston Road on foot.

The witness agreed to follow officers to the S. Hairston Kroger parking lot, where men matching the description of the carjacking suspects had been spotted by police leaving the Reserve at Stone Creek apartment complex and pulling into the store's gas station in a silver Ford Taurus.

An officer detained the driver, identified as suspect #2, as he went up to the cashier to pay for gas.

Meanwhile, another officer on the scene, seeing two suspects exit the Taurus, drew his weapon and ordered them to the ground, the report states. One was identified as suspect #1; the other, suspect #3, fled on foot toward Redan Road and was not arrested.

Suspect #1 told police: "I did not rob anyone," according to the report.

The two suspects in custody were identified by witnesses as the pair who fled the Jetta from the Birch Ridge Court location.
