Family Dog Found Deceased in Home Fire, Residents Escape with Minor Injuries

Firefighters were unable to save a family pet in a Monday evening house fire in Snellville, which left a family of three displaced.

The firefighters were dispatched to the home in the 3700 block of Lamar Way about 9:30 p.m. When they arrived minutes later, the fire had taken over about 50 percent of the home.Β

An initial 911 caller said it was uncertain whether anyone was inside, but two adult men escaped after being alerted by smoke alarms, according to a press release from Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services. One occupant was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The family's pet pit bull was not so lucky. Firefighters found the animal deceased inside the house. No other injuries were reported.

The fire and smoke heavily damaged the home, and a deck partially collapsed, officials said. Due to the damage, two adults and one teenage child were displaced.
