Fire Fills U.S. Post Office Distribution Center with Smoke, Forces Evacuation

A small fire started in a cubicle area near a bathroom, according to Gwinnett Fire.

A small fire that was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system and Gwinnett firefighters, forced the evacuation of the U.S. Post Office Distribution Center on Boggs Road near Duluth Monday evening.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said via email that a fire in the cubicle area near a bathroom was responsible for filling the center with smoke. No injuries were reported. Gwinnett Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause.

“Working sprinklers extinguished the fire and firefighters shut down the water to the system,” Rhoden said. “The large distribution center and offices areas were filled with smoke. Crews used electric fans to remove smoke from the building.”
