Firefighters Busy on Memorial Day with Downed Trees

Gwinnett County firefighters were busy with reports of trees and tree limbs being knocked down Monday afternoon.

According to Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge, the most significant reports were:

TREE LIMB DOWN ON HOUSE

Crew responded at 3:17 p.m. to a report of a large tree limb striking a house in the 4400 block of Ross Estates Court near Snellville.

The limb penetrated an exterior wall of the home. No injuries were reported. Storms were in the area, Rutledge said, but it was not storming when firefighters arrived.

TREE DOWN ON HOUSES

Late-afternoon storms are believed to be responsible for trees coming down on houses in Norcross and Stone Mountain at about the same time.

Firefighters responded at 6:34 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of North Norcross-Tucker Road near Norcross, and at 6:36 p.m. to a mobile home on Ridgewood Court near Stone Mountain. Both homes were extensively damaged.

In Norcross, the downed tree fell through a one-story house from back to front, Rutledge said. No one was home at the time.

Near Stone Mountain, a tree fell through the left side of a double-wide mobile home and penetrated the roof. Residents were home at the time, but escaped unharmed.
