Gwinnett Deputy Arrested for DUI

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy was arrested in Walton County.

Georgia State Patrol is reporting that Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy Douglas Dwayne Mattox, 50, from Watkinsville, was charged with driving under the influence and and following too closely following a three-vehicle crash at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday in Loganville.

Blood test results are pending.

According to a press release from GSP, Mattox was operating a 2006 Ford F150 pick-up truck belonging to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department when he struck the rear of a 2004 Toyota Highlander, which then struck the rear of a 2005 Ford Focus.

The driver of the Toyota complained of an injury but, according to the report, was not transported to the hospital.

The investigating trooper suspected Mattox was under the influence of prescription medication, and a blood sample was drawn for testing.
Mattox was arrested and taken to the . According to AJC.com, he was released on $2,182 bond the same day. It was reported that a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department spokesman said Maddox had been employed with the county since 2008. He resigned Friday.
