House Fire Reported at 4300 Block of Vineyard Trail

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a call at 11:17 a.m. Saturday, and arrived just six minutes later. 

Upon arrival, firefighters found moderate smoke and fire conditions in the kitchen of a two-story home.  They were immediately met with a burn victim in the front yard.  The man, who occupies the home, advised crews that there were several Rottweiles on the property.

Firefighters entered the home to combat the blaze and conduct a search.  The fire was quickly contained by firefighters using three-handlines and the primary search proved negative for further victims, according to the Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services incident report.  

The man was treated at the scene and released for a minor burn to the hand.  He reportedly sustained the burn as he tried to remove a burning pot on the stove.  A second individual (elderly female) was evaluated at the scene for a medical condition unrelated to the fire.  She was also released by paramedics.

The blaze appears to be an accidental cooking related fire.  The fire caused significant damage to the kitchen and sent extensive smoke and heat throughout the structure.  Two Rottweiler dogs were found deceased inside the home, but several others were found safe in the basement.

According to Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge, "You should follow safe cooking practices and have a portable Fire Extinguisher close at hand in the kitchen."
