Inside the Police Blotter: Cocaine Arrest, Illegal Blue Lights, Harassing Phone Calls

An in-depth look at few police reports from our Snellville blotter.

This week, Snellville Patch took a closer look into recent crime reports from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Cocaine and Trespassing: Snellville PD was tipped by an anonymous caller March 19 to report what appeared to be a burglary involving multiple people entering a vacant home. When police arrived at the residence on the 4200 block of Summer Place, two vehicles were parked outside the home along with a 22-year-old man. He told police that he was there visiting a sick friend named "Kelly" who lived at the residence, which was owned by someone else. He also told police that there were others inside the home besides "Kelly."

Police entered the home to find four individuals, all in their 40s and 50s, in the living room seated around a coffee table with six glass tubes of crack pipes, razor blades and pornographic magazines. Among them was the 22-year-old's father, who told police that they had just smoked cocaine and they had bought it from "Kelly," who was upstairs.

Upstairs, police found "Kelly," who told police that she was the daughter of the homeowner, who was in rehab. She allowed police to search the home, and they confiscated a white powdery substance in a clear plastic bag and a green powdery substance in a pharmacy vial.

Police quickly discovered "Kelly's" real name, her age (37 years old) and that she wasn't the daughter of the homeowner. Officers were able to phone one of the homeowner's real daughters, who confirmed with police that her father was in fact in a drug-rehab facility for six months. The daughter also said she knew "Kelly" was staying at the house off and on, but she wanted "Kelly" out because of her drug-related issues.

"Kelly" was placed under arrest for cocaine possession and giving a false name, and she also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court, which was added to her pretrial booking form. The other four people at the house were given a warning for criminal trespassing.

"Kelly" told police that the person who sold her and her friends the cocaine was the father of her children. She said that he had jumped out of a bedroom window before police had arrived.

Illegal Lights and Driving Under the Influence: A Gwinnett police officer initiated a stop after he saw a black Scion TC with illegal blue headlights and thick white smoke inside the vehicle. After stopping at the intersection of Parkwood Road and Stone Mountain Highway, the driver told police that he didn't know the blue lights were illegal. During the conversation, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and noticed the driver's anxiety, pale face and watery, sleepy eyes. The officer asked him where the marijuana was, and the driver said that it was on the floor next to the seat on the center arm rest. He also told the officer that he had just come back from a party where marijuana smoking had taken place, and he had been smoking just a few minutes before he was pulled over. The officer found the bag of marijuana, which was less than 1 oz., and the driver admitted it was his. The officer arrested him for possession of marijuana and driving under the influence of narcotics.

Maybe an April Fools' Joke?: On April Fools' Day, a 47-year-old woman said her daughter had met a man over the Internet who had called and left a message via telephone. She felt threatened by the message, in which the man said that he would "bring the devil to the house." The officer recommended that the complainant make a copy of the voicemail, but nothing further is available at this time. The call is being treated as a harassing phone call incident.
