Inside the Police Reports: Arson, Copper Wire Theft and More

Third-degree arson, copper wire theft and more in this week's Inside the Police Reports.

This week, Snellville Patch took a closer look into recent crime reports from the Snellville Police Department.

Playing With Fire: On June 15 around 6:30 p.m., two middle-school-aged boys knocked on the door of a residence on the 2000 block of Deerfield Run, near Ridgedale Drive and Pharrs Road. When the resident answered, the boys said that he or she should report a fire that was in a wooded lot behind the residence. The boys, described as white males with blond hair, continued to tell him that they couldn't contain the fire, and they ran away.

The fire department was able to extinguish the flames, and fire fighters found a gas can and a melted bottle in the woods nearby. Snellville police has the incident listed as arson in the third degree.

Don't Drink and Spit: A Snellville officer responded to a call about an intoxicated Hispanic man at Firehouse Subs around 6:30 p.m. on June 14. When the officer met with the drunk outside the restaurant, he noted all of the usual signs of intoxication: slurred speech, trouble standing, strong alcoholic odor in his breath and bloodshot eyes. The restaurant manager told the officer how the offender, a 29-year-old man with a North Carolina address, not only appeared drunk when he first walked into the establishment, but he would only speak Spanish and would repeatedly spit on the restaurant's floor. The officer placed the offender under arrest for public drunkenness and unruly conduct and transported him to the Gwinnetty County jail.

Baby Daddy Calls: A 41-year-old woman reported last week of harassing phone calls and emails that she had been receiving. She told police that while she was at work, a woman (who identified herself as Michelle Washington) would call her to say that the victim's husband was the father of Washington's child. She would immediately hang up afterward. The victim also received emails from Washington, too.

The wife told police that her husband had a relationship with a woman by the same name at one point, but the suspect denies calling the victim recently. She told police that the last time she called the wife was in January.

Copper Wire Theft: AT&T told Snellville police of unknown suspect(s) who supposedly removed copper wire from the cell phone tower at the store's location. A gray plastic sheathing was found on the ground that had contained the copper wire from before. Police determined that the suspect(s) gained entry by entering through a hole in a nearby fence, but officers weren't able to determine when exactly the theft had occurred. Snellville police has the incident listed as a felony-level theft by taking.
