Inside the Police Reports: Snatching Purses and Stolen Cars

Purses and cars were stolen in this week's Inside the Police Reports.

This week, Snellville Patch took a closer look into from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Purse snatching: A 54-year-old Loganville woman was traveling after a day at the Georgia Aquarium with her niece and great niece one July Sunday when she realized she was lost. Approaching Spruce Circle and Highpoint Road in Snellville, she saw two black males next to a white car. She rolled down her window to ask them for directions, but as soon as she spoke, one of the males grabbed her purse next to her and the duo ran away.

The victim immediately left to take her 8-year-old great niece home, and didn't call police until the next day because she had believed nothing relevant was stolen. Her driver's license, checkbook, a $110 flip phone and reading glasses were among the items in her purse. A federal income tax return check for $55.74 written to the victim and her deceased husband was also in her purse.

She also gave police the license plate number of the white car, which she obtained when she drove by the scene of the crime the next day.

Car Stolen: A 61-year-old man called police to report his roommate, 41, had stolen his 2001 Mercedes-Benz, worth $20,000. The two, along with the roommate's girlfriend, had been drinking at a neighbor's house on Imperial Drive. The couple left to go home, and when the victim arrived home later, he noticed his car missing along with his roommate. The girlfriend had no idea he had left.

At 8:02 a.m. the next day, the roommate called his girlfriend from a private number and told her to pick him up from Webb Gin House Road in Lawrenceville. She asked him where exactly he was on Webb Ginn, but he wouldn't tell her; he only demanded, "Just come and get me." She drove all over Webb Gin, waited at a Chevron station, but did not find him. She received another anonymous call at 9:16 a.m., to which he gave the same "just come" response. She looked for him on Webb Gin again, but no luck.

The girlfriend informed police that he’s currently taking muscle relaxers and Loratab. So far, there has been no sign of him or the car, and he has no Georgia Crime Information Center or National Crime Information Center record.

Entering auto: One Thursday evening at Lenora Park, a woman reported her SUV was broken into. The 45-year-old had hid her purse under the front passenger seat and locked her vehicle before going for a run, but when she came back, she saw her rear passenger window had been smashed. Her purse, which held $370 in cash, four IDs, three credit cards and her bank account number, had been stolen. Her banks informed her later that two of her cards had been used, but both transactions were denied.
