Gwinnett Man Charged with Murder of 3-Month-Old Daughter: News Nearby

Police believe Reuben Valrie, of Lawrenceville, shook the baby to death.

A Lawrenceville man called 911 Wednesday, Jan. 15, after his three month old daughter stopped breathing. Now he is behind bars, arrested in connection to her death.

According to Gwinnett County Police, Reuben Valrie, 28, called for help from his apartment at Wesley St. Claire Apartments, 3350 Sweetwater Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville. EMS teams took his infant daughter Aliyana by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

On Thursday, the Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy and found significant trauma to little Aliyana's body.

"Homicide Unit detectives took over the case," said GCPD Cpl. Jake Smith in a release. "Detectives developed probable cause to believe that Reuben Valrie had caused Aliyana’s injuries by shaking her."

Valrie was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center early Friday morning. He is charged with cruelty to children and felony murder. The father is being held without bond.
