Man Arrested in Regions Bank Armed Robbery

Police arrested Charles Tolbert, 46, after he tried to get away by running in the woods.

Police have charged and arrested a man in connection with the robbery of the on Scenic Highway in Snellville, according to law enforcement.

Charles Tolbert, 46, Β of a Windsor Drive, in Snellville, was charged with armed robbery. Additionally, he was served with a warrant for a probation violation.

At about 1:20 p.m., today, police said Tolbert entered the bank, went to the teller counter and then wrote a note on a deposit slip demanding money. The man claimed to be armed, according to Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead.

The suspect gave the slip to the teller, and she gave him an undisclosed amount of money.

The man then left the bank on foot, running into the woods near on Pinehurst Road. An officer responded to the bank, arriving less than a minute later, the cheif said.

He was able to describe the man to other officers over police radio. Several minutes later, another officer located the suspect near the intersection of Pinehurst and North roads, where he was detained.

The teller was able to identify Tolbert as the robber. The money taken in the robbery also was recovered, police said.

When officers ran Tolbert's name through a law enforcement database, they determined that he also was wanted for a probation violation.

Tolbert is currently in custody with local police, and he will eventually be transferred to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
