News Report: Snellville Women Charged with Unemployment Insurance Fraud

Three Snellville residents are among several others in Gwinnett County recently accused of defrauding the state Department of Labor of thousands of dollars.

According to a Gwinnett Daily Post report, three Snellville residents -- Patrice Bowles, 51; Cassandra Johnson, 46; and Doreen Cooper, 47 -- are being charged with receiving more than $26,000 total in benefits they were not eligible for.

Arrests warrants have been issued, the Post reports.

Persons who "knowingly collect unemployment insurance benefits based on false or inaccurate information" they provide to the Department of Labor are committing fraud, according to the agency.

Those who commit fraud may face punishment, including repaying the money plus fines, prosecution, jail or prison terms, forfeiting future tax refunds, or losing eligibility for future unemployment benefits.

If anyone becomes aware of such fraud, they are asked to report it to the Georgia Department of Labor.
