Police: Man Attacks Snellville Woman, Steals Car as She Walked to Mailbox

Authorities found the car and arrested the suspect two days later.

Authorities have arrested a suspect connected to a carjacking and assault in Snellville last week. 

According to a news release from Snellville spokesman Brian Arrington, city police responded to the 2200 block of Kings Gate Circle around 9:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16). 

A woman was approached by an unknown black male as she walked to her mailbox.

"The suspect charged at the victim and grabbed the keys to her vehicle," says the release. He assaulted her and caused visible, non-life-threatening injuries. 

He then fled in her vehicle, a gray 2003 Ford Explorer, which Snellville Police sent out a Nixle report asking for the public's help in finding the car.

On Saturday (Jan. 18), DeKalb County Police located the stolen vehicle and arrested the driver, Leonte Banks. DeKalb Police have charged Banks with theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of officers and other traffic related charges. 

Snellville Police Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating other possible suspects in connection with the crime. Criminal charges are pending at this time.
