Police: Molotov Cocktails Caused Smoke in Bank Robbery, Search on for Suspect

The armed robbery happened July 9, 2013.

Gwinnett County police still are searching for a man suspected in a Tuesday morning bank robbery in the Snellville area, and they are asking for the public's help.

And, Wells Fargo is now offering up to a $5,000 award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the armed robbery.

Police say an unidentified man -- described as a black male wearing a black shirt and grey pants -- entered the Wells Fargo bank at 3520 Centerville Highway about 11 a.m. July 9.

As the suspect entered the bank, police said "he ignited two incendiary type devices that burned and created smoke." These devices are being described as a molotov cocktail that failed to explode.

The suspect demanded money from a teller, and then left with an undisclosed amount of money and escaped in an unknown direction.

No major injuries were reported. However, police say the incendiary devices did cause minor smoke damage.

Officials said that investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Robbery Unit, Gwinnett County Fire/Arson Investigators and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are following up on leads.

In addition to the Wells Fargo award, Georgia Arson Control, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person (or persons) responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Georgia Arson Control Hot Line at 1-800-282-5804, the Gwinnett Fire Investigation Section at 678-518-4890, or the Gwinnett County Police Criminal Investigations Division at 770-513-5300.
