Police: Woman Tries to Escape Abusive Husband in Car With Child Safety Locks on

The man reportedly told police, "It doesn't matter what I say, I'm going back to jail."

A woman tried to escape her abusive husband last week in the car but the child safety locks were on.

According to the Gwinnett Police report, authorities received a 911 call one morning from the couple's 13-year-old son, who said he heard his mother and stepfather fighting and a noise that sounded like someone was hit.

When officers arrived at the Spring Creek Circle home, they saw a vehicle in the garage rocking back and forth, which then reversed and tried to back out of the garage.

After police ordered the occupants to leave the vehicle, they saw the mother running to the edge of the driveway screaming for help.

"He is going to kill me," she told the officer. She had a swollen lip, a laceration on her mouth and grab marks around her neck.

The husband didn't get out until the officer demanded him to do so a second time. He stepped out and said, "It doesn't matter what I say, I'm going back to jail."

The 30-year-old woman explained that, before she left for work, she told her husband that she wanted a divorce. Angry, he began yelling at her and became very physically abusive.

He then pushed her into the backseat of the car and locked the doors, she said. Since the child safety locks were activated, she couldn't get out. He continued to physically abuse her in the car until police arrived. He then told her to climb into the front seat and drive away, or else he would hurt her even more, but then the police ordered them to get out of the vehicle.

Pictures were taken of her injuries, and the man was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, battery, aggravated stalking about cruelty to children in the third degree. While obtaining warrants for the suspect, police also located a condition of probation that stated he is to stay from the home.
