Snellville Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Car-Scooter Wreck
Careon Roberts, 22, was allegedly driving a Nissan Versa when the vehicle crashed into a scooter and killed the driver.
A Snellville resident has been arrested in connection to a car accident last week that resulted in the death of a man riding a scooter.
Careon Roberts, 22, was charged Tuesday (Jan. 21) with first degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, following too closely, possession of open container in vehicle passenger area and safety belt violation, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.
The publication reports that Roberts' Nissan Versa struck the rear of the scooter around 4:30 a.m. Jan. 16 on Old Covington Highway. Both vehicles got off the shoulder, where the sedan hit several trees and then overturned.
The driver of the scooter, 46-year-old Conyers resident Willie Raynard West, died at the scene.
A passenger in Roberts' car reportedly fled the scene after the collision and started banging on the door and windows of a nearby home. Authorities were able to locate the woman, who was allegedly highly intoxicated and claimed that she was raped at a Gwinnett County home.
