Snellville Man Dies in South Dakota Accident

Paul Edwin Pierce III, 54, of Snellville, died Saturday morning after attempting to pass a snow plow on a South Dakota highway.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that a Snellville man died in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 90, nine miles east of Belvidere, S.D., on Saturday.

Paul Edwin Pierce III, 54, of Tanglewood Drive, was traveling west on Interstate 90, when the accident happened. As he attempted to pass a snow plow, Pierce's vehicle met with slush on the roadway. Pierce then lost control of his vehicle and entered the median, where his vehicle rolled onto its top.

He was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500, which was pulling a trailer with two vans loaded on it.

Highway Patrol official said in press release that Pierce was able to walk away from the crash, but that he became unresponsive while talking on his cell phone at the crash site.Β

Kadoka Ambulance transported Pierce to the Philip hospital, where he died.

Official said that Pierce was wearing his seatbelt, and that alcohol was not involved in the accident.Β  The snow plow also was not involved in the crash.
