Snellville Neighborhood Watch Warns of Possible Burglary Team

Brookwood Manor has had reports of suspicious individuals posing as employees from a remodeling business going door-to-door.

A neighborhood watch in a Snellville subdivision warns that a burglary team may have been in the area recently.

Watch leaders from Brookwood Manor, which is off Dogwood Road near the city limits, say that neighbors have noticed suspicious activity from individuals going door-to-door under the guise of selling windows

Even though the neighborhood lies in Gwinnett County, a post by the Snellville Police Department on Facebook discusses the incidents.

In one case, a young black female told a homeowner that trucks from her employer, Power Home Remodeling Group, will be in the neighborhood next week to install new windows for some neighbors.

But the homeowner pointed out that the windows were already new. The resident asked for a business card, but the woman only had a single folded-up brochure in her purse.

In another incident, a white male was seen walking toward the front door of a house trying to open the doorknob. It appeared to be locked, so he reached above the door as if looking for a key.

Watching from inside a car, a neighbor called authorities. The man noticed the neighbor and disappeared into a dark yard, but the same resident found him a few minutes later on another street. When asked what he was doing in the neighborhood, he pulled out a flyer with the same company name as the girl's.

His friends, two black males, arrived in a dark Toyota Corolla with a Rockdale County license plate to pick him up. The three took off when the resident informed them that the police were on their way. (Read the full post here.)

Their supposed employer, Power Home Remodeling Group, is an actual company. It's a family-owned exterior remodeling business that's been around for 20 years, according to its website. The company has serviced more than 60,000 homes and is expanding nationally, with locations in Atlanta and Norcross.

Snellville Police said in the comment thread that they have informed the company of the behavior.

"[The remodeling business] said some of the things that took place would not be normal for their company," they wrote. "It would not be a big stretch to think that someone up to no good might be using a legit business name for improper purposes."

Other comments from Facebook users indicate that similar incidents have been happening around the Gwinnett and nearby area, too:

"The young white male was also knocking door to door in Brookwood Plantation late Monday afternoon. He spent hours in the neighborhood and knocked on our door after dark. He had a flashlight and was kind of shining it into our glass front door as my husband shooed him off."

"I had a similar case in lawrenceville, coming into my garage to sell cleaning services for carpet. She looked very unprofessional and only had one business card and asked for it back after i said she couldn't come inside to show the product...."

"That's been going on alot here in Dacula. I called the cops the last time someone approached my home attempting to sell Kirby vacuum cleaners."
