Snellville Police Aid in Arrest of Man Accused of Running Over Police Officer

Thomas Paige was wanted for allegedly striking a Clayton County officer with his pick-up truck.

Thomas Areeco Paige, 36, was apprehended in Duluth on Wednesday after allegedly hitting Clayton County police officer Michael Hooks with his pick-up truck on Dec. 12, according to Clayton News Daily. 

Gwinnett County Police, Deputy Marshalls and Snellville Police, including Sgt. Will Collins, K-9 Officer Bart and Ofc. Davis, were among those responsible for Paige's arrest, according to Snellville Police.

Officer Hooks responded to a burglarly in progress before the incident occurred. He was hit at a K-mart store parking lot located at 5250 Frontage Road in Forest Park, Ga. Paige and an accomplice, Jabari Akil Jackson, were allegedly stealing metal from behind the K-mart.

“Several other officers gave [Paige] instructions and commands to stop but [Paige] refused to obey the lawful commands,” Clayton County Police Detective A. Melvin said in the arrest warrant, as reported in the Clayton News Daily. “He instead used his vehicle offensively and struck officer Hooks with that vehicle. He then continued out of the parking lot, where he abandoned the vehicle.”

Hooks is recovering at home, after being released from the hospital on Tuesday.
