Women Found With 31 Cats, One Dog, in Snellville Hotel Room

Two women were arrested and charged with exploitation of a disabled adult and cruelty to animals this week after they were found in a hotel room in Snellville with 32 animals. Both women faced similar charges in Loganville last month. 

According to Capt. Harold Thomas, Leah Tamara Waller, of 3668 Range Way, Loganville, and her sister, Elisha Waller, were found at Crestwood Suites in Snellville on June 26 with 31 cats and a dog in the room.

Both women previously were charged on May 1 with exploitation of disabled adult following an arrest on April 25 for cruelty to animals. According to the incident report from Gwinnett County Police Department at that time, an animal control officer responding to a complaint from a neighbor found the inside of the home covered in animal feces. Leah Tamara Waller has a 19-year-old disabled son. The home was in such a deplorable condition, according to the report, that the authorities had to enter wearing protective gear and oxygen masks. The home was subsequently condemned and the disabled son transported to a hospital.

At that time, the women were released on bond. This time, however, they both remain in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond on the exploitation of a disabled adult charge. 

Patch is awaiting information from Snellville Police Department on the whereabouts of the disabled son and the fate of the animals that were in the room at the time.
