Monday marks the first day of the qualifying period for the November general election for the city of Snellville, and six candidates have qualified already for the open seats.
Three seats are on the ballot for the city council, and those seats are currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts, Councilman Bobby Howard and Councilman Mike Sabbagh. All three incumbents qualified Monday for re-election.
Former Mayor Pro Tem and six-year councilwoman Barbara Bender qualified to run against Sabbagh's seat. Bender ran for the mayor's seat in 2011 against current Mayor Kelly Kautz, has served as vice president of the Snellville Tourism and Trade Association and is president of the Snellville Entrepreneur Council. She also is actively involved in the Snellville Veterans Memorial project,
