City Council Back at 2013 Budget

The city of Snellville will hold another meeting to figure out its 2013 budget.

Although it's been approved, the 2013 budget is still causing a bit of angst for Snellville city leaders. So, on Monday, city council will make another attempt at it.

Mayor Kelly Kautz called for the second reading of the budget to be placed back on the agenda following its contentious adoption on Friday, June 29. Not only are there inherent problems with the budget, but the mayor said there was never a proper motion to approve it anyhow.

With the new public hearing and second reading scheduled for Monday's council meeting, the mayor is also asking that two specific line items be re-included in the budget. Those are $426,022 for the LCI project and $16,900 for Lakeside Pavillion repairs at

Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts had wanted such projects to come from surplus funds. To that end, the mayor said she has asked that those projects be included in the budget, but earmarked for surplus funds.

The mayor and council will meet at 7:30 p.m. on July 9 at for its first regular meeting of the month.
