City Council Meeting Notes: April 11

Snellville City Council met Monday, April 11; and City Council goes over the third quarter financial report.

If you weren't at the City Council meeting, here is a quick rundown of the major actions taken or news presented at the meeting.

1. Third Quarter Financial Report

Russell Treadway, Snellville city manager, went over the third quarter financial report. City revenue is currently at about $9 million, which is about 94 percent of the budget. Expenditures are at about $6.8 million. Treadway said that the revenue and expenditures are expected and consistent. The sanitation fund, though consistent, remains at a negative balance, he added.

Treadway also reported that major TSPLOST capital projects are either complete or ongoing. Those projects include: the new police headquarters, the new public works facility, McGee Road improvements and phase two of Briscoe Park. In May 2012, city officials expect to complete phase two of Briscoe Park. When completed, the park will include soccer and softball fields, an outdoor theater, parking, a pool and more.

2. Occupation Tax Hardship Ordinance

This potential ordinance, which would all a financial reprieve for small businesses, was postponed until the April 25 meeting. Additional changes are expected to the potential ordinance before coming back to council.

3. Urban Renewal Development Agency

The mayor is expected to appoint four members to this board at the April 25 meeting, however he is looking for two bankers who live in Snellville who would like to be members. If you are interested, please contact the city of Snellville at 770-985-3500.
