City Council Sets Millage Rate

After calling a special session, the city council approved a millage rate for the 2011-2012 year.

In a matter of minutes Snellville's City Council approved a millage rate for the 2012 fiscal year. The new millage rate is set at 5.7 and will provide a $12.20 deduction for individuals.Β 

The motion was proposed by Council Member Barbara Bender, and following a at the July meeting the council decided to reconvene Monday in a special session to voice their votes.

"After reviewing our last meeting and looking over the reports I am more comfortable than ever with the new millage rate," Bender said.

The new millage rate was passed 6-0, and council members seemed pleased to resolve the issue.Β 

"It's not often that we are able to offer a decrease in anything to our residents," said councilwoman Kelly Kautz. "Even though the reduction will be small for the individual, any help we can offer our citizens is needed."

Next week, the council will be reviewing the city's budget and discussing cuts for the 2012 fiscal year.
