City Leaders Eye Education Center

City leaders met recently to discuss bringing educational facilities to Snellville.

A key finding in the city of Snellville's recent town center survey showed that there is a need for higher education in the community. City leaders are now considering how it could bring such facilities to town.

Residents, city leaders and staff members recently gathered to brainstorm ideas for fostering collaborations with local higher education providers, such as Gwinnett Technical Institute and Georgia Gwinnett College. Councilman Mike Sabbagh initiated the meeting after learning of the public's concern through the town center survey.

City officials say satellite campuses could be located in the city, which produces more than 3,000 high school graduates a year, according to a press release from the city of Snellville. Advanced college curricula could even be provided within the city hall's 8,000 square feet of space, officials said.

Eventually, the educational offerings could be similar to that of the University Center in Greenville, S.C., according to a city of Snellville press release. There higher education providers, such as Clemson University and Greenville Tech, helped civic leaders start an educational facility that now offers more than 75 bachelor's degrees.

Participants at the Snellville meeting plan to reach out to higher education facilities to assess options and interests.
