Evermore CID Director Serves as Principal for a Day at Britt Elementary

Jim Brooks learned Monday that he is not smarter than a fifth grader.

After many years of public service to his community as a police chief, and now as Executive Director of the Evermore Community Improvement District, one thing is clear to Jim Brooks: He is not smarter than a fifth grader.

On Monday (Nov. 18), Brooks and other leaders from the Gwinnett area participated in the county’s “Principal for a Day” program at local schools. In its 10th year, the program invites local community leaders to participate in a regular school day and be a part of its leadership team.

“The staff and students of Britt Elementary provided such a warm welcome, and allowed me the opportunity to experience all aspects of their school environment, first hand,” said Brooks. “From the moment I arrived, I was most impressed by the level of collaboration and coordination taking place within the school. Parents, teachers and students truly come together each day to create a meaningful learning experience.”

The use of technology in the classroom and throughout the school was also something that Brooks noted. “From the morning announcements, which is a live broadcast directed by students, to the use of tablet technology in the science labs, every aspect of learning is enhanced," he said. "Principal Jones and staff have developed an environment that allows for the practical application of education, complimented at all levels by technology.”

“If the opportunity ever presents itself for you to participate in this program, I would highly recommend doing so. I was amazed at what takes place each day,” he continued.
