Former Snellville Resident Looks to Getting Liquor Store in Loganville

Former Snellville resident Dwight Harrison and Donald Camp filed three of the seven applications received by the City of Loganville for two package store licenses to be issued in the city.

Seven applications were filed with the City of Loganville by the Jan. 31 deadline for the two package store licenses to be issued - one in Gwinnett County and one in Walton. Only one, however, was completely in compliance and able to be accepted by the city, according to City Manager Bill Jones.

One of the original seven was rejected immediately because two were filed for the same property. Jones said of the remaining six, only one application was in compliance. It was one filed by Ronald D. Harrison, a former Snellville resident, and Donald Camp on property on Highway 78 in Walton County.

Four of those rejected, however, have since been appealed and the hearings have been scheduled for March 28, 2013, at Loganville City Hall.

Both Gwinnett County applications, one by Harrison and Camp and another by Richard Ford, have been appealed. Jones said the one by Ford had parking problems and the one by Harrison and Camp was too close to a church to be in compliance with the terms of the application. According to Jones, most of the others also had problems with the parking outlined in the applications.

Depending on the outcome of the appeals, a lottery will be held to draw one successful applicant for Gwinnett County and one for Walton from the qualified applications. The winners will each pay $4,500 for the license.

The Loganville City Council voted during the November city council meeting to award the two licenses by way of a lottery.  If a lottery is necessary, Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash will draw for the successful Gwinnett County license and Walton County Commission Chairman Kevin Little will do the same for Walton.
