Full Video: Jan. 9 Special Called Meeting

The meeting was called by four members of council to discuss the mayor's removal of City Attorney Tony Powell from office.

The following items were discussed, as can be seen in the videos. The items are from the official agenda. 

  1. 1st Reading –  Consideration and action on ordinance clarifying the scope of the mayor’s authority to participate in administrative affairs pursuant to Section 3.10(e) of the City Charter 
  2. 1st Reading – Consideration and action on Home Rule Ordinance to add  Section 5.16(c) to the Charter of the City of Snellville 
  3. 1st Reading – Consideration and action on Home Rule Ordinance to add  Section 2.31 to the Charter of the City of Snellville 
  4. 1st Reading – Consideration and action on Home Rule Ordinance to amend Section 3.11 of the Charter of the City of Snellville 
  5. VI. RES 2013-XX – Consideration and action on Resolution of Confidence in Anthony O.L. Powell and review of firm’s invoices and authorize him to proceed with filing of lawsuit on behalf of the City and City Council to affirm the express terms of the City Charter that restricts the power to terminate the City Attorney, City Clerk, and City Manager 
  6. Consideration and action on instruction to City Manager not to pay any other lawyer or law firm for work allegedly performed on behalf of the City without official approval authorizing the hiring of additional legal counsel by the City Council and approval of invoices by the City Council at a regular meeting 
  7. VIII. RES 2013-XX –  Consideration and action on resolution authorizing City Attorney Tony Powell to move forward with declaratory judgment action of certain laws of the State of Georgia, the City Charter of the City of Snellville, and the City Code of the City of Snellville
