GCPD Now Offering Online Crime Reporting

Gwinnett citizens can now report crimes online using GCPD's new tool

The Gwinnett County Police Department announced a new reporting option for residents in the county. People can now go online to report certain crimes on GCPD's website. Those crimes include Theft by Taking, Entering Auto, Identity Fraud, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage and Theft of Lost or Mislaid Property.

GCPD said this service will let the public report crimes at their convenience over the internet. Residents will not have to wait for an officer to respond or call them back. They can also print a temporary copy of the report as soon as they submit it. Once the report is reviewed by police personnel and approved, a copy will be emailed to the person who filed the initial report.

In a release, GCPD Chief Charles Walters said, "The Gwinnett County Police Department and the Gwinnett County Administrators continue to implement recommendations made by Engage Gwinnett. By providing this service we are better able to utilize our resources more effectively and provide enhanced service to the citizens of Gwinnett County."

While the system cost the county about $125,000, GCPD says over time, it will save the police department and county a good deal of time and money.

Currently, GCPD is the only agency in Georgia using this online reporting system.
