Georgia's New Gun Law: What Do You Think?

Poll shows unhappiness with new gun law.

In what was touted as signature legislation passed just weeks ahead of  the May 20 primary election, state lawmakers expanded the list of places where Georgians may legally carry firearms to include schools, bars, government buildings and, for the first time, churches.

Turns out the legislation is less popular than thought.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll shows that Georgia voters roundly disapprove of the is year of the legislation. Among respondents in the new poll, 59 percent gave House Bill 60 a thumbs-down.

Which leads to a question:

  • Do you agree with the new legislation, which becomes effective July 1? Will its passage change your vote in the upcoming primary one way or the other? Tell us in comments below.

And, dare I wake up the yawning one, here is a wonderful fact sheet (there's that dreaded word, "fact"). Enjoy! http://smartgunlaws.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/GeorgiaFactSheets.pdf . It is an overview of Georgia & Federal Laws as pertains to firearms. It is pretty informative for those interested in research. So, goodluck to all who like to share what they think. Until we meet again...

Catherine Anne I'm sure that you have noticed two things posting on Patch. One facts more often than not tend to have a liberal bias. Two right-wingers are deathly allergic to facts and avoid them at all costs.

Catherine, why not review the law itself instead of a bunch of lies from a liberal site. The link you posted holds very little fact concerning the GA law that will take affect July 1st. Examples: People under 18 can't own guns...true but neither can people under 21 unless a member of the armed forces. GA doesn't require a background check for the purchase of a forearm...just a blatant lie. The federal laws prevail on purchasing firearms and this is a GA requirement. Domestic violence perpetuators aren't required to surrender their firearms....again, a blatant lie. Anyone convicted of domestic violence loses their firearms and the right to ever buy another one. You liberals are just sickening with your lies, your lack of interest in truth, and you such easy willingness to fall for anything your puppet masters feed you. Disgusting that American citizens have fallen so far into the nanny state.

Catherine Anne I have found that confronting right-wingers with facts and ignoring their name calling presents them with a mental quandary they are unprepared to handle. That's why they need to cling to implements of violence and use over the top rhetoric. It assuage the battering and bruising their egos take after doing battle with facts and truth. There is nothing wrong in believing that there is good in everyone. It's just that you have to dig deeper in some people to find it. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I hope that you will continue to do so.

Catherine Anne, thank you for demonstrating knowledge and constraint. I have enjoyed reading your contributions and have learned so much. You have qualities to endure inappropriate BS that I don't have. What it seems like to me is there is a cadre of extreme right haters whose job is to scan and spam any publication and comment sections with their ideology. What we all have observed here is their pathetic MO.
