1. Flapjacks and Democrats

Why Go: It's election season, and everyone is having a fundraiser. If you side with the Dems (or, if you just like breakfast), check out this pancake fundraiser being hosted by the Gwinnett Democrats. State Party Chairman Mike Berlon is the featured speaker. I mean, who doesn't like pancakes!

2. Shop for a Cause

When/Where: November 5, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m., , 2059 Scenic Highway N, Snellville

Why Go: We about this event on November 3, but just so you don't forget, here it is again. Belk stores across the country are participating in this special event that benefits local charities. Shop at discounted prices, and if you purchase a special $5 coupon from a participating nonprofit or school, you get $5 off your purchases per item. We know that local charity the Amanda Riley Foundation is one charity involved.

Pricing: Depends on how much you buy! The special coupons are $5. Contact the Amanda Riley Foundation for how to buy coupons that benefit them.

3. Speaking the Spoken Word

When/Where: November 4, 8 p.m. - 10 p.m., The 47 Spot, 5271 Lawrenceville Highway, NW, Lilburn

Why Go: This looks like it could be interesting. (Don't shoot the messenger.) According to the website, The 47 Spot is a hip hop night, hosted by Adam and Belinda (curious, their last names were not listed), designed to part concert, part networking, part artsy homage. You get to hear "lyrical testimonies" through rap, song or spoken word. We say this definitely sounds groovy.

Pricing: Free, donations are accepted.

4. Mall Farmers' Market

When/Where: November 5, 10 a.m., Stonecrest Mall, 8000 Mall Parkway, Lithonia

Why Go: The Snellville Farmers' Market is over, but here's another you can go to! From our side of town, it's really not that far away. Located between Dillards and JC Penney's, the East Metro Farmers Market brings goodies, from apples, Asian pears, baked goods, herbs, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and more.Β 

Pricing: Free to browse, of course. Items are priced by vendors.

5. Cats R Us

When/Where: November 5-6, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.n. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth

Why Go: Love kitties, this is your place this weekend. The Gwinnett Center will host more than 300 of the top cats from around the nation that will be competing for honors and prizes. This is the 73rd annual Cotton States CFA Championship and Household Pet Cat Show. In addition to the beauty pageant, visitors can shop for cat grooming products, furniture, fine jewelery, art, and more. Adoptable cats will also be there from local no-kill shelters.

Pricing: $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. For more information on the event, check the website.
