Snellville City Council Meeting: 90th Birthday, the Arts and the Summit Chase Lake

The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12.

Mayor Kelly Kautz and the Snellville City Council will meet for its first regular meeting of the month Monday (Aug. 12).

The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Snellville City Hall with a work session preceding it at 6:30 p.m. in conference room 145.

Items on the regular meeting's agenda include:

  • Celebration of Snellville's 90th birthday: Miss Brookwood Ariana Stringfellow will present a birthday cake and there will be a celebration in community room
  • Action on the Lower Johnson Lake Dam, which was tabled at the July 22nd meeting. The Summit Chase lake, which was drained in December 2011, has become an eyesore with dead animals and other hazards, and the homeowners association wants the city to pay for some of the costs since a road runs along the top of the dam. Councilman Mike Sabbagh said at the last meeting that the item proposes that repairs be done only to the pipe under the street connecting to Summit Chase.
  • Approval to amend the Retail Pacakage Sales of Wine Regulations to allow the decrease of food sales for wine shops
  • Amending the 2001 Zoning Ordinance that would adopt policies for permitting special uses relating to collective residences
  • Approval of the Field Chemical Contract
  • Approval to purchase two 2013 Harley Davidson FLHP Road King Motorcycles from the confiscated assets fund
  • Approval of the Veterans Memorial Construction Easement
  • Four board appointments: two for the Urban Redevelopment Agency and two for the Snellville Public Arts Commission
  • Approval of the Speed Zone Ordinance
Discussion items during the work session include:
  • Proposals from the Snellville Public Arts Commision: These include a sculpture public art project, to be displayed in 2014; purchase of a painting per year from the Art on the Wall at City Hall program; an arts survey for the citizens; developing a room in city hall into a performance space; an arts festival; and fundraisers such as the Art of Wine, which will take place Sept. 20, and a performance of "A Christmas Carol" at Summit Chase Country Club.
  • Facility Rental Rates
  • Citywide Mosquito Control
  • Veterans Memorial Construction Easement
