Snellville Election Qualifying Opens

Candidates who want to register to run in the November election may do so this week.

Anyone who wants to run for public office in Snellville this year may now officially throw his or hat in the ring.

Qualifying opened Monday, August 29, and ends Friday, September 2. Interested parties may file a notice for candidacy from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day this week.Β 

The offices for mayor and three City Council positions will be on the November ballot, including a special election to fill Post 4.

The mayor post requires a $180 qualifying fee; it's $120 for council posts.

Four people have indicated they will run:

-- , who recently vacated her spot as a councilwoman, will run for mayor. Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer is at the end of his term.

-- a local businessman, plans to run for Post 4. The post was previously held by Bender.

-- l, a Snellville planning commissioner, announced his plans to run in May.

-- , operations manager for a plumbing business in Loganville, recently announced she would also run.
