Snellville Veterans Memorial and More Discussed at Oct. 14th City Council Meeting

The Snellville City Council and mayor held its first meeting of October on Monday (Oct. 14). 

Here's a recap of the meeting: 

-City Manager Butch Sanders gave an update announcing the near completion of the repairs to the Johnson Lake Dam. Click here to read his report.

-Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts announced that the city has been given the final seal of approval to officially start building the Snellville Veterans Memorial. A groundbreaking took place in late August for the new monument at Oak Road and Highway 78.

-The council and mayor unanimously approved to send the 2014-2019 Short Term Work program update to the Atlanta Regional Commission for Review.

-The elected officials also voted yes to allowing an RV company to rent out part of the parking lot at the old Snellville Police Department on Springdale Road. The business would be using the lot for storage space at $1,500 a month.

-Two items were waived for the Oct. 28th city council meeting: The conditional use permit by Lifegate International church and the home rule ordinance to amend a part of the city charter for notification on special meetings

-City Controller Jan Burke was presented with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This year is the second year in a row that she has been honored with the award, and she's only been eligible twice for the honor. 

-A proclamation was given to the Snellville Masonic Lodge #99.
