Talk-Talk-Talk: What is the Snellville Preference?

City of Snellville announces results of preferred communications methods survey.

As the city continues to collaborate with residents to create a new Towne center where commerce and community can share space, build friendships and create a sense of place, they are delving deeper into communication methods used by Snellvillians. 

City officials believe it is imperative to have active engaged communication with residents.  With that in mind, they pursued information on how citizens learn about city programs and events. 

One thousand Snellville residents were given a four-minute survey.  Their answers reinforced what city leaders already suspected: communication methods have changed in the past few years.

Residents now say that their top three sources of city-related information are the City of Snellville’s website, word-of-mouth, and My Snellville Blog. 

The Snellville Patch, established in December of 2010, was further down the list, along with the Snellville Spirit magazine, local news coverage, and Google alerts.

There is a strong desire within the community to have an official city distributed email, Facebook page and City newsletter. 

Social media is used actively by 41% of respondents.  Of that 41%, 96.3% are active on Facebook. 

The Snellville Spirit magazine was recognized by 28% as a Snellville-specific communication method, but online sources are the primary sources of information. 

 “As the City’s plans for The Towne Center at Snellville come to fruition, we want to keep the community abreast of what’s happening now and what’s planned for the weekends and special events in our future,” said Russell Treadway – city manager for Snellville. “With this data, we have a clear understanding of the ways citizens receive current information about our city and can explore new methods for providing citizens with up-to-date information at the right time through the right medium.”
