Vacant Spaces: What Do You Want Here?

Today we're asking about the well-known spot in the Snellville Oaks shopping center, that used to be a Walmart.

Snellville Oaks shopping has a lot of vacant space. And, the largest empty space is that formerly occupied by Walmart.

In total, there's more than 100,000 square feet of empty space where the big-box retailer used to be. And, everyone knows how difficult it is to get a space that large filled again, especially with all the parking required for a super-sized store.

If you subdivide, though, there's some hope.

That's what the city of Snellville is hoping for. And, right now some 35,000 square feet of that space is planned for

The other portion -- 78,583 square feet -- is still going to be empty.

Before this space was another chapter in the book of dead zones around Snellville, it was also a Gold's Gym. That lasted for five years, and in April 2010 it was no more.

There are a few other spots open in this shopping center, including the new . And, sure, having tenants occupy the smaller spots is good.

But, with a lonely, huge slab of cement -- otherwise known as the unused parking lot -- there, and a space the size of a Publix doing nothing but looking like a ghost town, a few tenants in other spaces may not do much.

So, what would you put there in the other portion of the old Walmart and Gold's Gym? That is, if you had it your way?
