Video: View Snellville Council Discuss Gun Rules, Briscoe Park

Since a city council work session brought up the topic of gun regulation and a local city park in the same sentence, there's been contention and confusion.

Patch on the Snellville City Council discussing the possibility of gun regulations as it relates to on June 12, 2012.

That short brief drew a great number of comments of concern and confusion. Later, Snellville Mayor Kelly Kautz tried -- -- to clear up what she was really talking about.

Still, there was ample concern and conversation,

Now, Snellville Patch has the Youtube video, and everyone can have a look here. Scroll to 14:35 for the start of the short discussion.

You be the judge. What was the mayor talking about? And, what's with all the laughter on such a hot-button and concerning topic to many? Let us know in the comment section.

Interesting that The Patch continues to report this as though it were an issue raised by the council. It wasnt . The Mayor brought this pointless discussion up , apparently unaware that her office , nor the council have any power to modify , manipulate or otherwise molest any carry laws. The continued discussion is pointless unless the purpose is simply to illustrate the Mayor's failure , again, to understand the limits of her power.

No confusion after watching the video she said the email came from Sugar Hill Mayor and that Sugar Hill is looking at legislation.

As best I heard on this video, the Mayor references an email from the Sugar Hill Mayor, not GMA, erroneously states information regarding both the Sugar Hill incident and state law, then requests the City attorney to look at the issue and discuss some legislation for Briscoe Park. As a taxpayer inside the City limits of Snellville, I will be very upset to learn the City has squandered my hard earned tax dollars on having the City Attorney research settled law.

Kautz could have done 15 minutes of research on the internet and answered her own question. GRRR!!!

I mentioned to my halcyon wife all about the desire to bring firearms into Briscoe Park. Her immediate response was "Well, I won't be going into Briscoe as often". I married a very intelligent woman:)
Grant June 19, 2012 at 02:49 PM
David... I assume you and your wife are aware that people have been legally bringing firearms to Briscoe and just about any other public place for a great many years and will continue to do so as they prefer , right? You do "get that" dont you?
Gary Custar June 19, 2012 at 03:36 PM
Grant, what tickles me about comments like David's is that he refuses to recognize that the 'bad' guys have been, and continue to, carry firearms all the time ANYWHERE. His naivette only allows him to have disdain for the legal, law-abiding folks that carry arms, however. If a criminal is going to rob a store, mug or kill someone, they know those actions are illegal. Does the thought process of someone like David allow them to think that because carrying arms in certain areas would be illegal that, in and of itself, would keep the criminal from commiting the crime in the first place? If that is the thinking, why doesn't the illegality of the crime itself keep the criminal from commiting it? Just like a liberal to get things bass-ackwards. So much for him and his "intelligent woman".

Gary, how many "liberals' do you know who are opposed to abortion; opposed to same-sex marriage; prayed regularly for President George W. Bush and his family; believe that divorce is the terrible destruction of a family; attend church every Sunday; and involved as a prayer counselor at church. Be careful about throwing out pejorative terms to describe someone who simply has a different perspective than you on a particular issue, like gun control.
Gary Custar June 19, 2012 at 05:33 PM
You are right, David. I took your stance on firearms, which is the typical liberal viewpoint, and labeled you thusly. The thoughts and actions you mention in your reply above tend to discredit the bulk of my liberal labeling of you. My apologies. The gun part still stands, though

Mayor Munchausen By Proxy Syndome: When you invent a problem where none exists so you can swoop in and look like you are saving the citizens but all you wanted to do was get media attention for yourself. Then you try to do fancy backsteps when it doesn't go as planned.

Please, do all the research you can to protect yourself and your loved ones from this horrifying condition.
